Since 1984 I provided technology and systems consultation for diverse organizations.  Organization size ranged from tiny through large national plus tiny through moderate global.  Practice / duties for business practice and process included technology systems and services plus associated staffing, methodology and facilities.

  • Oversee all facets of the daily operations of the organizational unit, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws, policies and regulations
  • Monitor and maintain optimum performance of all building systems, to include all digitally-controlled mechanical, electrical/electronic, safety, security systems
  • Coordinate and interact with external contractors in the installation, commissioning and debugging of all building systems
  • Respond to inquiries and resolve problems related to transactions handled by the unit
  • Evaluate factors such as reporting formats required, cost constraints, and need for security restrictions to determine hardware configuration
  • Monitor functioning of equipment and make necessary modifications to ensure system operates in conformance with specifications
  • Specify power supply / power service requirements and configuration, drawing on system performance expectations and design expectations
  • Store, retrieve, and manipulate data for analysis of system capabilities and requirements
  • Analyze failure reports and make recommendations to improve product reliability and quality, and quality assurance processes, practices and procedures
  • Direct technicians, engineering designers or other technical support personnel as needed
  • Constantly updating knowledge and skills to keep up with rapid advancements in computer technology
  • Provide training and support to system designers and users
  • Budget for and purchase equipment to control dust, temperature and humidity in area of systems installation
  • Provide technical support to designers, marketing and sales departments, suppliers, engineers and other team members throughout the product development and implementation process
  • Analyze information to determine, recommend, and plan layout, including type of computers and peripheral equipment modifications
  • Oversee policies, procedures, management, and operation of computer systems including servers, workstations, modems, personal computers, domains, LANs, WLANs (Wireless LANs), WANs, VPNs, VoIP and IP voice (protocol VoIP and private / dedicated IP voice), network printers, scanners and copiers
  • Build, test and modify product prototypes, using working models or theoretical models constructed using computer simulation
  • Supervise personnel which typically includes recommendations for hiring, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution
  • Oversee activities of contractors, vendor personnel, and suppliers
  • Monitor contracts for compliance and control costs; monitor general expenditures of unit; perform quality control inspections to ensure adherence to contract specifications and industry standards
  • Serve as a liaison with constituencies in the resolution of the day-to-day administrative and operational issues
  • Assist in the annual budget planning process and regularly monitor expenditures
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
  • Plan and conduct on-site customer training for system administrators, management and end-users
  • Provide telephone and/or online technical support from off-site location when not involved in installation project

Technical Skills

  • Writing and executing Internet technology test plans (including HTTP, HTTPS and TCP/IP) that support web-based, client facing applications
  • Experience testing user interfaces with knowledge of human factor related issues
  • Proven knowledge and demonstrated application of engineering concepts and skills
  • Experience in testing methodologies and theories, test plan development, test case design, test case execution practices, data collection, root cause analysis techniques, and reporting practice
  • Familiar with industry SQA automation tools and proven ability to learn and apply new tools and processes as needed
  • Direct experience in computer programming, scripting, and software development
  • Strong command of the following: UNIX and Windows platforms plus command of Mac, HTML and JavaScript
  • User and administrative experience with Windows and UNIX platforms
  • Hardware platforms:  Avaya (including Nortel), Cisco, Hewlett Packard (including DEC and Compaq), IBM, Lenovo
